Former Attorney-General Martin Amidu, is likely to face sanctions from the disciplinary committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress if found guilty of bringing the name of the party into disrepute.

Deputy General Secretary of the party, Koku Anyidoho, told Joy News a petition by two members of the party against Amidu “has been well received.”

He has promised “fair hearing” to Amidu.

The two members, Evans Amankwaa and Abigail Mensah, have submitted a petition to the party hierarchy citing the citizen vigilante of assaulting the spirit and soul of the party with his endless epistles and public utterances.

Quoting Article 47 of the party’s constitution, the two are convinced, the conduct of Martin Amidu is in breach of the party’s constitution.

Mr Amidu, has been vociferous in his criticisms of the NDC ever since he resigned as Attorney-General in 2012 following a misunderstanding with late President John Mills on how to handle the controversial Woyome judgement debt issue.

Ahead of the 2016 elections, the former Attorney-General stepped up a notch higher, accusing the former president and other senior government officials of corruption and shielding Alfred Woyome, the business man who was found guilty of defrauding the state.

He did not stop there. In the recent controversy at the Electoral Commission which has seen the top three Commissioners tearing each other apart with allegations and counter allegations, Martin Amidu popularly referred to as the Citizen vigilante, pissed in again, accusing, the former president John Mahama of appointing Charlotte Osei as EC chair with the sole purpose for her to rig the election.

Some party supporters have been unhappy with the serial criticisms by the citizen vigilante.

In a move to stop Martin Amidu from carrying on with his public utterances, the two members of the party have submitted a petition citing cases of breach of the party’s constitution.

The petitioners cited some of the ‘sins’ of Martin Amidu as follows;

“That the Accused, without any evidence whatsoever, alleged in a media article published on 2nd November, 2016, that the Party or its leadership did connive with the National Electoral Commission to commit several electoral offences, to wit, to rig the 2016 elections in favour of the Party. “That the Accused, in a media article published on or about 15th November, 2016, did call on voters to vote against the party or its presidential candidate in the 2016 general election. “That even after the Party has lost the presidential election and many of its seats in Parliament, the Accused, in a media article published on or about 29th July, 2017, with flagship vehemence, did launched insults and largely unsubstantiated accusation at the Party’s Members of Parliament. The party’s Deputy General Secretary has accepted the petition and submitted same to the Disciplinary Committee of the party.

Even before a hearing will commence, Martin Amidu has fired back.

In a piece titled “surrogates Amankwaa and Abigail Mensah petition against Martin Amidu for defending the Constitution of Ghana,” the Citizen Vigilante described the petition as “immoral” and an attempt by the two to climb a ladder of “cheap popularity.”

He averred that the NDC Constitution is inferior to that of the Constitution of Ghana and to the extent that his utterances were for the furtherance of the superior Constitution, the petition is fundamentally flawed.
