Embattled former Nkoransa North MP, Eric Amoateng, who was picked up Thursday at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after a 10-year jail sentence in the United States, is begging for a lawyer to represent him.
According to Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh Nuamah, the former legislator, who was convicted for drug trafficking, in 2004, was whisked from the Nima Police Station where he was detained overnight to the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
Mr Amoateng was picked immediately after he touched down at the airport by officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) for a debriefing session.
He was subsequently detained by the police who accuse him of using a lady’s passport acquired fraudulently.
Kwakye Afreh Nuamah reports that officials of the CID have been meeting with the Attorney-General’s Department on how to prosecute the matter.
The former New Patriotic Party MP is likely to be arraigned before court Friday.
An exasperated Amoateng wearing a stained white shirt and barefooted, begged Afreh Nuamah to help him secure the services of a lawyer.
He expressed concern his treatment may become a subject of political debate.
Crowds of friends and famiy members of Mr Amoateng who gathered at KIA to welcome him were said to be present at the Nima Police Station Friday.
Mr Amoateng’s mother has also appealed to the public for help for his son, who seem to have been neglected since his incarceration and return to Ghana.
