Ex-convict Eric Amoateng is likely to be released from police custody later Monday reports say.
Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh Nuamah, who is currently monitoring activities at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Accra, said Mr. Amoateng has been going through some documentation processes for his release.
Earlier Monday, his son, Akwasi Amoateng was said to have visited the Nima Divisional Police Command to meet a police detective, who later accompanied him (son) to inspect his father’s property, used as a surety.
Afreh Nuamah described Mr. Amoateng’s appearance on arrival at the CID headquarters, saying, he wore a green lacoste with a pair of blue jeans to match and escorted by about five police personnel.
Eric Amoateng has been in police custody days after he was granted bail by an Accra circuit court for alleged forgery.
Mr. Amoateng was granted a Ghȼ200,000 bail with three sureties, one of which would have to be justified by an Accra Circuit Court last Friday after he was charged with possessing forged passport belonging to a woman.
Mr. Amoateng arrived in the country on Thursday, after serving a 10-year jail term in the US for illegal drug trafficking but was arrested by the Ghana Police at the Kotoka Airport for allegedly possessing a forged passport.
