Some aggrieved contractors for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) today the besieged the premises of GETFund to demand payment of monies due them. The contractors claimed they had not been paid for about Seven months after completion of works on projects awarded them by the GETFund. They said their checks at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning revealed that the sector Minister had released funds to the GETFund to settle them. They are worried over why the Administrator for the Fund Mr. Sam Garbrah “has refused to give us what is rightfully ours”. Nana Bayik who speaks for the irritated contractors, told Myjoyonline.com, they could no longer sit and wait after several attempts for the Administrator of the Fund to pay them the over Ghc 75 million arrears have failed, while their creditors are virtually after them to collect loans they took to undertake the projects on behalf of the GETFund. “Many of my colleagues find it difficult to even sleep in their homes due to the incessant pressure from their creditors who are mostly, the banks. We don’t work for the banks, we want to enjoy what we have worked for, not to be giving it to the banks everyday”, Nana Bayik stated. However Public Relations Manager for GETFund Steven Baffoe said even though the Finance Ministry had reportedly released some funds to the GETFund, the Bank of Ghana had not credited their accounts yet. Mr. Baffoe however assured that the contractors would be paid immediately the money hits the GETFund accounts.
