A 14 year old Junior High School pupil of Ho SDA in the Volta Region has been pronounced dead after collapsing during preparation for next week’s Independence Anniversary celebration.
The shocking death of Gonni Etornam has left pupils and teachers of the school traumatized.
Authorities of the school have therefore sent a petition to the Ghana Education Service to exclude them from the impending Anniversary celebration, in order for the pupils to be taken through a counseling session.
Speaking to Joy News, a Ho-based journalist reported pupils of the SDA JHS as saying the deceased had been well and never complained of any sickness "until they were in the procession, matching and after they all turned their heads to the right side and were walking, the girl just collapsed and that was it. She was later pronounced dead.”
The body of the JHS one pupil has been sent to the Ho Municipal Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
Assistant headmaster of the school Aaron Hornuvu told Joy News the school is preparing for the burial of the pupil.
According to him, the circumstances under which the pupil died were strange because she had been part of the school’s sports team.
He also confirmed the school’s petition to the GES, to allow for a healing process to take place among the pupils.
