The Koforidua High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a 29-year-old fashion designer who allegedly sodomised a 22-year-old caterer at Srodae, a suburb of Koforidua.
The warrant followed the failure of Randy Nana Okyere, alias Nana Yaw, the accused; to appear before the court¬ when the prosecutor and the counsel for the accused were to address it for the jury to come up with its verdict.
When the case was called in the court, presided by Mr Justice Henry A. Kwofie, neither counsel nor his client was present.
Nana Yaw has been charged with laving unnatural carnal knowledge of his victim. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is on a GH¢l,200 bail with two sureties to be justified.
The case has been pending before the court since February 15, 2010.
The facts of the case are that the victim is a caterer who lives in Accra, while the accused person is a fashion designer living in Koforidua.
According to the prosecution, on March 29, 2010 the victim visited one Nana Kwesi in Koforidua to collect his (victim's) bag but he did not meet Nana Kwesi and had to wait in Nana Yaw's shop for Nana Kwesi.
When Nana Kwesi failed to show up in the evening, the accused person asked the victim to sleep with him in his house at Srodae, since it was too late for him to travel back to Accra, a t request the victim agreed to.
When they got to the house, Nana e Yaw gave the victim food to eat, after which he became drowsy and lost consciousness.
The victim felt the accused person having intercourse with through his anus, but because he was weak, he could not resist the action, the court heard.
After realising that the victim's condition was bad, Nana Yaw sent him to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua about 1 a.m. on March 30 2010.
On March 31, 2010, the victim was discharged from the hospital and he requested the accused person to pay his medical bills, which he failed to do.
The accused person, according to the prosecution, later asked the victim to come to him for the money on April 5, 2010, but he again failed to honour his promise, compelling the victim to seize a television set and a DVD player belonging to the accused person.
Nana Yaw reported the matter to the police and when the victim was arrested, he narrated what the accused person had done to him to the police, after which Nana Yaw was arrested and charged accordingly.
ln his caution statement to the police, Nana Yaw admitted having had sexual intercourse with the victim and 'as put before the court.
