Hip life trio, Asaase Aban are utterly disappointed in award organisers who they accuse of turning a blind eye on their good works.
They have therefore hinted of a possible boycott of this year’s 4Syte Music Video Awards after their music videos were once again ignored by the organisers.
The group made up of Samuel Akman (Yooba B), Richard Danso (Drasty) and Felix Walker (Walker) expressed their frustrations on Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM Monday.
Their decision to boycott the Music Video Awards slated for November 20 at the Accra International Conference Centre was prompted by their management, Impel Notion Consult.
“There are some nominations and categories that we feel in a particular year that we were supposed to be there. Sometimes we feel we work hard and we need to be appreciated. There are some nominations that our name is not there [and we feel surprised],” the group said.
“[We] wouldn’t like to say the nominations are not fair but there are some nominations for example this (4Syte) Music Video Awards coming up, we thought we did good videos and we expected to be nominated. Such things are some of the things that, to be honest, we feel bad about it,” one of them said.
The trio said they deserve to be nominated in at least four categories namely; Best Storyline for Daben Da (remix), Special Effects for Dekoko, Best Group, Best Choreography and Best Collaboration for Daben Da (remix) which features 55, Sarkodie and Bradez.
“Everybody knows that when they talk of collaborations for last year’s videos, what we did…we expect to be there,” another stated, adding, “to be honest, last year, the Daben Da video, everybody knows that we featured top artistes.
"So talking of Best Collaboration Video, Daben Da (remix) featuring Sarkodie, 55 and Bradez and last year, they were the artistes that were hot and we featured them on that song and we believe it is the hottest collaboration video, we think there is a foul play for it not getting a nomination.”
This they say has not dampen their spirits since they are not in for awards but to do music to satisfy their fans.
The group was formed in 2001 while they were students at Apam Senior High School. They have three albums including Adwoa Sokode released in 2003 and Nana Yaa in 2007 to their credit.
