The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has hosted 55 pupils from his constituency at Parliament House in Accra. 

The visit, the first of its kind since Mr. Asenso-Boakye assumed office as MP for Bantama in the Ashanti region in January 2021, saw 55 selected students across various schools in his constituency, together with their teachers touring Parliament on Tuesday, November 1. 

Prior to Mr. Asenso-Boakye meeting the group, the students had a guided tour of the House, followed by an observation in the chamber of proceedings of Parliament for the day.

Addressing the pupils after a session in parliament, the MP, who is also the Minister of Works and Housing, urged them to make education a priority in their lives as it will ensure they have a better future. 

“Without education, I would not be where I am today, so you have to take your education seriously,” he advised them.

He also explained the importance and function of Parliament to the pupils, by saying that, “You elect us to come here to debate and discuss issues affecting the whole country. That is part of the work we do here in the House of Parliament.”

Other member of Parliament also took turns to share words of encouragement with the students. They included Alexander Afenyo Markin, MP for Effutu & Deputy Majority Leader; Dominic Nitiwul, MP for Bimbilla & Minister for Defence; Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South; Abena Osei Asare, MP for Atiwa East & Deputy Minister for Finance.

Others were Francisca Oteng-Mensah, MP for Kwabre East; Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Old Tafo; Kingsley Nyarko, MP for Kwadaso; and Ama Pomaa Boateng, MP for Juaben and Deputy Communications Minister.

MP for Atiwa East and Deputy Minister for Finance, Abena Osei Asare urged the pupils to build good relationships wherever they find themselves.

“Building a good relationship is very important. So, learn to build good relationships aside your classroom education”. 

Mr. Alexander Afenyo Markins, MP for Effutu advised them to refrain from any acts that will put their future in jeopardy, and make good use of facilities available to them, including the internet. 

The students were appreciative to the MP for the opportunity given them.

“Today is my first time here and I have seen a lot of things, and also heard a lot of advice,” one of the students asserted.
