The Ashanti Regional Minister has given illegal miners up to the end of today to stop blasting and leave the premises of Asare Bediako Senior High School at Akrokerri.
Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Mensah has also directed Adansi North District Chief Executive, Alhaji Latif Majdoub, to take steps to enforce the quit order.
The miners have been operating on the school compound for over four months, leaving students and school authorities terrified.
The ‘galamsey’ operators used dynamite to blast gold -bearing rocks at night, making it difficult for students to undertake academic work.
Last month, the students petitioned the Adansi North District Assembly and the Obuasi District Police Command but the blast persists.
The Regional Minister’s order, perhaps, is the first concrete move to get the miners out.
Spokesman, Francis Dodovi, tells Luv News the move follows reports by Luv News on the activities of the miners.
According to him, the Regional Minister has ordered the forceful eviction of the illegal miners if they fail to heed the directive.
