As hosts and competitors in Canada’s only student-run international business competition, Asper School of Business students are about to open their doors to the world.
The 28th annual Manitoba International Marketing Competition (MIMC) draws business students from around the world for three days of presentations. This year’s event is the largest in MIMC’s 28-year history with 15 business schools participating from countries such as Ghana, Netherlands, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, United States, Brazil and Mexico.
Since October 2009, the teams of (typically) four have been competing against each other in a sophisticated online business simulation game called Capstone. In January the final phase of the competition takes place where teams formally present the business plans of their fictional corporations to judges.
“MIMC gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves amongst other great Marketing minds from all over the world in an intense four month competition,” says Teresa Samek, 2010 MIMC Co-Chair. “By breaking global boundaries, MIMC has established itself as one of the most respected competitions in the country and looking forward we can only expect great things to come from the competition and by the delegates who have participated.”
The competition runs until Saturday, Jan. 9. Media are invited to a kickoff reception Thursday night, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Delta Winnipeg. Media are also invited to meet with teams Friday, Jan. 8 at the University’s Asper School from 9 a.m. until noon. Media are not invited into presentation rooms.
