Contestants for the December 28 District Assembly elections are disappointed at the Electoral Commission’s decision to postpone its planned campaign sessions for them to interact with voters.
The platform mounting was due to start Thursday but the EC announced an indefinite postponement.
It was to afford the aspirants the opportunity to sell themselves to voters.
Some contestants told Joy News they are worried because there is very little time to go for the elections.
Meanwhile EC officials in Lower Manya in the Eastern Region say they may not be able to organize elections in the district.
This is because angry youth locked their offices up a fortnight ago when they went on a protest against the re-demarcation of six electoral areas within Akuse to the Dangme West District.
Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Paul Boateng told Joy News his outfit is unable to process documents of aspirants.
“We couldn’t process the nomination. We file the nomination. The forms are there. At the close of nominations you sort them out and do your statistics and send them to the Head office for the printing of the notice of poll and ballot papers."
He said because of the situation they were unable to access the forms.
“If it remains locked up how do we conduct the elections,” he quizzed.
