Plans are far advanced for the construction of an ultra-modern building for the Atwima Akropong Magistrate court of the Ashanti Region, to ease adjudication.

The project, which is been funded by the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly (ANDA) through the District Development Fund (DDF), is expected to commence anytime soon, according to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Rebecca Yeboah.

She disclosed this at a colourful sod-cutting ceremony held at Akropong. The DCE noted that resourcing the Judicial Service to discharge its constitutional obligations efficiently and effectively, was a priority of the government.

She stated that governance, rule of law and order would not prevail without resourcing the third organ of government to discharge its official mandate.

She said, the project, which is to be constructed by FC KAP Company Limited, is expected to be completed in a period of six months. 

This new court building when completed, will be the first of its kind, according to Francis Noel, the Ashanti Regional Administrative officer of the Judicial Service.

He said, it would enhance the adjudication and also encourage the Judicial Service staff to work harder. 

On his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency, Benito Owusu-Bio, commended the DCE and the management of the District Assembly for such a laudable vision to put up a modern court in the District.

The Atwima Akropong magistrate court was established in the colonial era and has not seen any renovation until 2016 after it had been abandoned for decades.

The Akwamuhehe of Akropong, Nana Amankwah Apam, who represented the chief of Akropong at the sod-cutting ceremony, thanked the DCE and the MP in particular, and the Assembly authorities as well for deciding to establish a modern-day court building in the town. 

The event was graced by the Acting District Coordinating Director, Mr.  Kaleen Abdallah Adam, Presiding Member for the Assembly, Isaac Ohemeng, the Magistrate  of the court,  Mr. Stephen  Kumi, the Acting District Information Officer, Mr. Thomas Awuah Asem and the Deputy Director of works at the Judicial Service, Mr. David Opoku respectively.
