The Baobab Foundation, an NGO based in Ghana has gone to the aid of the Cape Coast Metro Hospital, one of the hospitals managing the Covid-19 cases in the Central Region with food and personal protective equipment (PPEs).
The human development-focused organization, aside the supply of the personal protective equipment, is giving the facility free meals every day for two months to enable them have the comfort to manage the cases that come under them.
The gesture by the organisation follows an appeal by the hospital to the general public for support.
The German Founder and Managing Director, Edith de Vos shared with the facility how touched they were when the hospital called for support to enable them fight the Pandemic.
“We were touched by their appeal and we decided to offer them our support. Because our restaurant has been closed, as a result of the pandemic, we decided to cook good organic food and supply them to them,” she explained.
It’s not only the food package the organization offered but also some PPEs to support the hospital. They included face masks, handwashing items and things that could support the hospital fight the pandemic.
Management and Staff of the Cape Coast Metro hospital expressed their excitement about the gesture. What they say excites them more is the fact that the food package is purely organic and will help boost the immune system of the benefactors.
Coordinator for the COVID-19 Response team at the Cape Coast Metro Hospital, Freda Serwaa Asiamah expressed their appreciation to the organization for assisting them.
“Their support is very much appreciated. Their supplies will enable us do more,” she stated.
At Kissi in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality, where the organization has a children foundation, two key events took place: a donation of handwashing items and PPEs at the market centre and the Kissi Health Centre.
The Foundation also made some donation of facemasks to the fishing community in Cape Coast and encouraged the fishermen to wear their masks and observe other handwashing protocols.
The organization has a number of interventions ongoing in the Central Region. These include the Baobab School for Trades and Traditional Arts, the Baobab, the Baobab Culture Troupe, the Special Needs Unit and the Baobab Medicinal and Organic farm.
Through these activities, the organization has been able to address many issues -inclusive education, the preservation of traditional arts, environment protection, recycling of plastic, the use of renewable energy, building with local materials, organic farming and the use of medicinal plants.
