Head coach for Ashanti Gold, Bashir Hayford has lamented the increasing trend of Ghana players moving outside the country to play in obscure and uncompetitive leagues.
Bashir Hayford who led the Miners to successfully win the Ghana Premier League title last season is worried that the country in losing talent that could have been developed locally.
In a recent public comment, the experienced expressed alarm by this development and called for stakeholders to lead efforts towards a solution.
“It is a worry for me as a coach. Not long ago, Ghana would pick on countries such as Guinea [Congo and Sudan] and beat them heavily.
But why is it that nowadays our players are now running to these countries?”
“These countries were imitating us. They wanted to learn football from us.”
“We need to find a solution for this. You have players going to these countries. Sudan; they are still fighting but the players are still going there. Lebanon!”
"In the past, promising young players have gone to play in Kazakhstan and even Somalia."
