Some 320,255 candidates, made up of 174,847 males and 145,408 females from 8,079 Basic Schools will take part in the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from 23rd to 27th April, 2007.
Another 134,083 candidates will also take part in the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) throughout the country.
A statement signed by the West African Examinations Council’s Senior Public Affairs Officer, Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe said the candidature is made up of 74,628 males and 59,455 females from 569 Senior Secondary Schools. The WASSCE examination, the second time for Ghanaian candidates, has already begun with Oral and Practical Tests and will end on June 7.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that the examinations are conducted successfully.
“The Council however wishes to appeal to the public, especially candidates, to be wary of persons who purport to have in their possession question papers of any kind. The WAEC wishes to add that it is very alert and will not hesitate to deal with any candidate, school, supervisor or invigilator who infringes any of its rules or tries to disrupt the conduct of the examinations in any manner.“
The Council wished all candidates the best of luck and advised them to desist from engaging in malpractices during the examinations since it could lead to the cancellation of their results and prosecution.
