Senior Presidential Advisor and Presidential Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has urged Ghanaians to use the recent flooding situation as an opportunity to change attitudes towards waste disposal and environmental protection.

Mrs. Mogtari said the impact of the torrential rains in Accra, which led to the displacement of residents, loss of lives and damage to infrastructure, underscores the need for collective action to address sanitation challenges.

She noted that while government continues to pursue measures to address flooding, citizens must also play an active role in protecting the environment and preventing activities that contribute to the obstruction of waterways.

“The administration, under the leadership of the President, is committed to finding lasting solutions to flooding and has been engaging with, the Security services, Anti Flood Committee, and other well-meaning citizens in this endeavor,” she said.

Mrs. Mogtari stressed that maintaining clean communities and adopting responsible waste management practices are essential steps towards reducing the risk of future flooding.

“Let us seize the current opportunity to rectify our past mistakes and adopt sustainable waste disposal practices,” she stated.

She further encouraged Ghanaians to work together with government and other stakeholders to build a cleaner and safer environment for present and future generations.
