National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo MP, Micheal Teye Nyaunu, has joined calls by the Minority for the arrest former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Betty Mould Iddrisu on her role in the Woyomegate scandal.
Teye Nyaunu questioned reasons why Betty Mould - who is said to have ordered the payment of the controversial GH¢51million judgment debt to business Alfred Agbesi Woyome - was walking free after the recent report of the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) had implicated her of complicity.
The NDC top man's call supports that of the Minority in Parliament, whom after the police picked up the former Deputy Sports Minister Osei Bonsu Amoah Sunday on his involvement in the Woyome issue, called for Betty Mould Iddrisu's arrest.
According to the Minority, since the former Attorney General glossed over concrete evidence that the State had no contract with Mr. Woyome to order payment she must be prosecuted for the criminal act.
But a strong worded statement by lawyers of Betty Mould Iddrisu said the only payment their client made by the State to Mr Woyome during her tenure as Attorney General was made pursuant to a High Court Order dated 7th September 2010.
The statement further said Mrs. Iddrisu neither authorized payments nor was she at post as Attorney General when subsequent payments were made to Mr Woyome.
On the contrary, outspoken MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu on Citifm eye witness news Friday, opined that Betty Mould Iddrisu should have been the first culprit to be arrested in the Woyomegate scandal.
“From the word go when the issue stared she should have been arrested and made to face the law like any other citizen in this country because nobody is above the law” he added
Teye Nyaunu said the former AG under whose watch the state paid such as a gargantuan sum of money to Aflred Woyome for no work done cannot exonerate herself from blame and to a large extent prosecution.
He claimed that if the assertion of EOCO that President Mills prevented payment of the money twice is anything to go by then it “makes the President the principal agent” which he said raises questions about President John Evans Atta Mills’ commitment to fighting corruption.
“My point is that they are all agents and the principal is the President. So for me any of them effecting any payment means the President must be in the know. Let’s all begin to ask the President a lot of questions”.
The Lower Manya Krobo MP noted that the onus lies on President Mills to prosecute all key agents who were 'criminally minded and irresponsible' to pay that much money to one person to prove his commitment.
Micheal Teye Nyaunu said Ghanaians are very discerning so the Mills-led administration must ensure the state recovers the money from Alfred Woyome and his accomplices and unsure their prosecuted.
