No one knows where he went. And we are yet to be told why he has been away for that long. But that's how Big Brother is defined: he is a supreme power unto himself and he owes no one any explanations. The good news is that four years after he captivated audiences around Africa, 'Biggy' is back! Pan African pay TV channel, M -NET has just announced that he has kindly decided to make history again with a second run of the hugely successful 'Big Brother Africa' reality show. In 2003, the buzzword around the continent was 'Big Brother Africa'. 12 young men and women were Big Brother's guest in a huge mansion in South Africa, sequestered in a friendly competition for a cash prize of US$ 100,000. For 106 days the housemates, kept the continent entertainedl, very much so with their emotions, schemes, cultural clashes and some romantic escapades. At the end of series, the lady from Zambia, Cherize won the contest. Looking at the phenomenal success of the programme, it was quite strange that Big Brother decided to take a break. Just last year, M -NET took him to Africa's most populous country, where they staged 'Big Brother Nigeria', which was not as popular and successful as the continental one. The channel itself also chose to try out some other reality TV formats like 'Survivor Africa' and Idols. All this while, many around the continent were calling for the return of 'BBA'. And now, M-NET has decided to satisfy audience demands. The channel has just started calling for entries for BIG BROTHER AFRICA II, searching for 12 contestants from Ghana and 11 other African coun namely: Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. "This show defined the term 'popular demand' for us," says M-NET's Director of Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa Joseph Hundah. "From the minute Cherise Makubale won the first series, fans have asked when BIG BROTHER AFRICA would return. So we're thrilled to announce season two. Now it's our turn to ask Big Brother fans one simple question ... What are you waiting for? Start entering!" Anyone over the age of 21, who is a citizen of one of the participating countries and in possession of a valid passport, can enter. The show's selection team is looking for housemates that are vocal, fluent in English, fun loving, creative, original and articulate. Entrants should also be tolerant of views and lifestyle choices other than their own and have the social flexibility to live in close proximity with others. Entry forms will be available online at www.mnetafrica.com . The deadline for entries is Wednesday May 2,2007.
