Blue Ivy Carter is only eight years old, but in this year alone she's done everything from narrating the audiobook for Hair Love to snagging a BET Award for her work on her mom Beyoncé's song "Brown Skin Girl."
Now, Blue can add "Grammy nominee" to her already-lengthy list of credits, making her one of the youngest of all time.
As noted by Billboard, Blue and Bey were nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Video for "Brown Skin Girl" on Friday, December 11.
According to Billboard, Blue wasn't initially named on the nomination in November, but rather added later.
Grammy rules require that “in order for a featured artist to be recognized as a nominee, 1) the artist must be credited and recognized as a featured artist; and 2) there must be significant performance and artistic contribution by the featured artist beyond what might be considered merely accompaniment.”
The publication reports that Blue's nomination places her with a small but mighty group of young musicians; the youngest nominee thus far is Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters, who won for O Brother, Where Art Thou? alongside her sisters when she was just eight, while Deleon Richards was eight-and-a-half when she was nominated for Best Soul/Gospel Performance in 1985.
Of course, this kind of greatness is nothing new for Blue. She made her musical debut crying in the background of one of her dad Jay-Z's songs, "Glory," and hasn't stopped since.
She's had a featured verse on Jay-Z songs, made appearances in Beyoncé's videos, and even won an NAACP Image Award for the aforementioned "Brown Skin Girl."
Oh, and can we talk about her work to encourage hand-washing during the Covid-19 pandemic?
There's really nothing Blue can't do, and with the great age of nine on the horizon, we're looking forward to seeing what's next for this talented little star.
