NDC executives in the Jaman South Constituency have cleared Major retd Osahene Boakye Gyan to contest its parliamentary primaries.
The executives say he is a bona fide member of the National Democratic Congress.
The membership of the former AFRC guru and an ardent critic of former President Rawlings became a subject of controversy when he picked up forms to contest the Jaman South Constituency seat.
Top party officials including Deputy General Secretary Kofi Adams believe Boakye Gyan is not a card-bearing member, but constituency chairman, Anthony Amponsah Amoabeng, told Joy News Boakye Gyan is a member of the NDC.
Though he could not tell when Maj. Gyan became a registered member of the party, he said he (Gyan) expressed interest in joining the party and he was introduced to him about three years ago.
He also confirmed that the party card he is holding is genuine and was signed by him (Amponsah Amoabeng).
Major Boakye Gyan (retd), who refrained from attacking his critics, told Joy News the party’s vetting committee should be allowed to do their work, and was hopeful that he will sail through.
“I know I am a member,” he stressed.
He said he has provided all documents required by the party to contest the parliamentary seat, maintaining that aside the vetting committee, he is “not answerable to any other body” until a final decision is made.
Two people have filed their nominations forms to contest the Jaman South Constituency seat of the ruling National Democratic Congress – Matthew Gyasi and Mr Boakye Gyan.
