The Boots for Charity project initiative by brothers Kwabena and Ekow Enti – pupils of Ghana International School – has taken another positive twist after recent donations to Accra-based Phoenix FC.

In 2016, the youngsters decided to collect used, but decent boots for underprivileged kids playing football barefooted.

The campaign got a huge endorsement when CAF president Ahmad paid the brothers a visit at school last year.

Other philanthropies have joined and Switzerland-based Collex Football Club donated to Jennifer Fee and her son Bruno. And she paid for the cost of shipping.

Also, Mrs Sedina Agama who is based in the UK collected boots and shipped for free.

The items (boots) in addition to some jerseys and gloves were presented to Phoenix FC.

Head coach of Phoenix FC- who train at 37- Prince Mydas hopes this gesture can spark something positive.

“Football is under decline in Ghana, not just in Ghana but all of Africa but Ghana is where I live. We find some players sold for little or nothing. The Premier League is non-existent, so we at Phoenix, we want to do something about it,” he told Joy Sports

 As I said, it is not about football but also getting the community involved so we can have our vibrant football league in the community.

“If we have a vibrant football league in the community where players and the spectators are coming in there and getting money. We can have a vibrant league in the country.”

The presentation took place during the morning assembly at the Junior School (Department) of GIS on Thursday, 13 December 2018.

Ekow, the younger of the two brothers, is overwhelmed by the support and the impact they are making within a short time.

“I started with my brother two years ago. We didn't really expect anything big. We didn't expect this much and this much feedback. We just thought that it will be something some,” he said.

“We will be given a few boots and that is it. But, we got more boot from different places and this is becoming a global thing.”

His elder brother Kwabena also added: ''When we started, we didn't expect this to become global. We just expected people to give us a few boots to help the community but now it is becoming bigger and bigger. We hope to be given more boots.''

Ghana International School (GIS) is happy with the impact being made by the brothers and vice principal of the Junior School Ms Nadia Bruce-Muller is full of praise for Kwabena and Ekow.

“It definitely boosts our image. We are an excellent school and we know that. But this is definitely one of those things that fall in line with our strategic aim of giving back to the community.

“Our responsibility almost far as giving back, recognizing the need around us. We are not just an island unto ourselves.

“We know that their needs are there and for our student to recognize that and to care enough and do something about it that is significant and for them to come back to our community here, share what that need is and for us to partner with them and do this means a great deal to the school.

“As you have seen, we have goods coming from the UK, Switzerland to bless our children  and here in Accra.”
