A six-year-old boy is going through severe agony, after he was allegedly assaulted sexually by two boys, aged 13 and 16, at Asuofua Asamang, in Kumasi.
The boy's mother, Lydia Amoh, told the Times that the incident took place last November, but he was kept at home because she could not afford the cost of treatment. Her husband has passed away.
According to her, the boy broke the news when he became seriously ill and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He confided this ordeal to a nurse, and said the suspects had warned him that he would die if he disclosed the incident to anyone.
The boy had developed sore at the anus and medical doctors had to perform a colostomy operation on him.
Colostomy is a surgical procedure to create an opening (in the stomach) for the release of urine and faeces.
Ms Amoh said a complaint was lodged with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the suspects were arrested but were later released.
She said the 13-year-old boy is a family member, while the 16-year-old lives in the neigbourhood.
A source at the DOVVSU confirmed the story and said a case docket would be sent to the police Legal Department for advice.
