The former lead singer of the first Ga rap group in the hiplife game, Prince Bright seems to have been entangled in a number of dicey situations even as his first solo project “condom”; fades out of from our airwaves and couldn’t even get a nomination for the recently held
Ghana Music Awards Festival.
He was a strong member of the hiplife trio made up of (Shutan, Ronny and himself), which later became a duo for reasons they never disclosed to the press.
BukBak has been in existence since 1999 with their debut album “Kom ke kena”. After this Bright and Ronny has constantly improved from album to album.
“Ahwehwe and Nkomshe” their second and third release kept them growing, until “Sika Kokoo” the fourth album finally vindicated their growth winning two awards at the 2003 Ghana Music Awards (GMA).
BukBak’s fifth album (Gold Coast), which perhaps was affected by the unascertained Ghana Music Awards flop genes, couldn’t perform like the other four albums even though it had probably one of the most expensive videos in the country; the “Gonja Barracks” video.
Subsequently, the duo denied openly rumors of their split till Bright’s first solo album titled “Light over darkness”, eventually substantiated the rumors. “As of now BukBak is temporarily non-existent”. Bright confirms it all. After months of its release, most people including his colleagues think Bright was too matured to have done a song like “Condom”.
Reacting to this Bright said, he does not agree with anyone who belongs to that school of thought.
“Music is to educate, entertain and inform and to me condom has all it takes to be a good song, because whether we like it or not the HIV/Aids virus is killing our people andthe condom is here to prevent this danger. As a musician, the only medium I have to check the kids and create the awareness of the use of condom is through my music, which is exactly what the condom song is about.
My colleagues shouldn’t just judge me because of my lyrics but rather pay attention to the rational behind it and the positive impact it will make in our society.
“Bright explained the sense of his song “Condom”. As to why the split of BukBak, he said there is nothing negative about their split. “Ronny is cool with everything. I still perform with him and we shall surely record our album together as and when the need arises”.
Bright refers to his album as “him and every thing about him; this is the real, full and actual signature of Bright” which was executively produced by PrinceDave Records (APOR) who also produces Castro D’ Destroyer.
The album had eight tracks on cassette and twelve on CD, with hit songs like: “Me ton niema” which featured the Buky cores and “Wat dem plan” a reggae song featuring Batman. Apart from “Me ton niema” produced by J-Q, all other songs was produced by Quick Action (S 24).
Comparing being a solo artist to being in a group, Bling Sparkles said he feels safer and stronger as a solo artiste. To the ladies, seke gbili said he has got love for all those who are crazy over him. The problem here is; have the people accepted Bright as a solo artiste?
Can he really make it without his partner Ronny Coches? The songster is indeed in trouble as to how he is going to make it to the top with all these occurrences.
This album had determined whether Bright will be accepted as a solo artiste or not. Presently Bright is on holidays in the States and rumors has it that he is working on his next solo album. We are all waiting?
