A week after some police officers in Kumasi brutalized Multimedia journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, the service says it is waiting for the alleged police officers to report themselves.
Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Tanko said the Service has sent "word" through the Regional Command requesting any officer involved in assaulting the journalist to report himself but "nobody has come forward".
Erastus Asare Donkor of Luv FM was detained while on duty covering a protest by some scrap dealers and head potters against the killing of one Iddrisu Rashid by the police for an alleged robbery incident.
He was manhandled after the Police officer could not get any identification from him. Shocked, and nursing a swollen face, Erastus reported the incident to the police.
The Ashanti Regional Police promised an investigation but after seven days, its Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Tanko reports "we have not been able to identify nobody".
He said an identification parade to enable Erastus identify his assailants was scheduled last Tuesday but was postponed because of the World Cup play-off between Ghana and Egypt.
Ashanti Regional chapter of the Ghana Journalist Association has condemned the incident but has urged journalist to properly identify themselves while on assignment.
