Busia’s nephew wants NPP scribe job

A nephew of late Ex-Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia has expressed his interest in contesting the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr Obeng Busia was until recently Ghana’s Consular General to the United States. The NPP is due to go to congress in December to elect national executives. Mr. Busia tells Joy News, he can poll 90 percent of the ballots at the congress. “It doesn’t really matter who I am contesting against, it is a question of believing in yourself and believing in your capabilities and understanding what the party needs right now and being able to marshal a message that will resonate with the mass base of the party” he said. “My trump card is making the NPP more alive to the realities of the 21st Century in terms of political organisation. “I think that is not being done in terms of information dissemination and other things; the party should be made smaller than it is bearing in mind the concept of global village,” he told Joy News’ Sammy Darko. Mr Busia is promising to recreate the NPP to effectively use ICT, stressing the party struggled to transmit election results to the Electoral Commission headquarters during the last elections. Asked how he would rate his progress so far towards the bid, Mr Busia said: “I want to rate my performance as 9.5555… [out of 10] and that’s not arrogance.” “I believe in myself and I believe in my capabilities.” The interest of the former Prime Minister’s nephew to contest the position comes days after a key member of the party, Captain Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, hinted he would also soon officially declare his interest for the position.
