Ghanaian attacker Thelma Baffour became the second Ghanaian to win the CAF Women’s Champions League following TP Mazembe’s victory on Saturday, November 23.
The DR Congo side sealed a 1-0 win over Morocco’s ASFAR Club to ensure a first taste of the trophy since its inception.
Baffour featured in all five games for her side in the competition including a cameo appearance in the final.
The Ghanaian who created a goal in the semifinal win over Edo Queens played the last 30 minutes of the win against ASFAR.
Mazembe enjoyed a great start to the final as they found the opening goal after just 10 minutes played.
Marlene Yav Kasaj scored from the penalty spot to break the deadlock and hand the Congolese side an early lead.
ASFAR, who were winners in 2022, mounted a spirited effort in an attempt to find the equaliser.
However, their efforts did very little to change the scoreline on the day as Mazembe held on to secure the trophy.
It was also a revenge for Lamia Boumedhi’s side who had lost their first meeting with the Moroccan side in the group stages.
Baffour was part of the squad that secured a place in the Ghana Women’s Premier League for Jonina Ladies for the first time two seasons ago before earning a move to Mazembe.

The Ghanaian forward was for her side in winning their domestic league before heading on to claim the zonal qualification by winning the trophy.
She has had a stint with Ghana’s youth national team and will hope the performances with Mazembe will be enough to earn her a place in the Black Queens squad in subsequent months.
