Teachers and Educational Workers Union and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association Monday defied heavy rains in Cape Coast to embark on a demonstration over the consistent delays in the payment of their monthly salaries.
According to the workers, the situation, which has persisted over the past three months is bringing untold hardships on them and their dependents.
They want the University Management and the government to be fair to them by paying their salaries promptly to avert any untoward situation.
According to Joy FM’s Central Regional correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko, the Registrar of the UCC, who received the petition of the demonstrating workers stated that a loan had been secured and that the salaries of the workers should reflect in their accounts latest by Tuesday.
The Secretary of UCC TEWU, Emmanuel Aidoo welcomed the move by the university authorities but maintained that the authorities were not doing enough to solve the consistent salary delays over the past three months adding that the problem must be tackled once and for all.
