Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has called on Ghanaians to celebrate this year's Christmas in moderation.

Speaking in an interview on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM Wednesday, the Vice president urged Ghanaians to take a cue from Jesus Christ whom he said was born  under very modest circumstances.

He wished "Ghanaians a very Merry Christmas and the best of the festive season," and advised that, "we celebrate in moderation. Jesus was born in very modest circumstances and so we also must celebrate his birth and the future in moderation."

"I wish all Ghanaians the very best of the season and hope that next year we will all be well and continue to work for the progress of this country," Kwesi Amissah-Arthur added.

Alluding to Jesus' parents going home for census, the Vice-President said he will be going to his birth place of Cape Coast Wednesday to spend "some time with children who are ill in hospitals so they will also have a sense of the season."

He encouraged Ghanaians to share their time and resources with the underprivileged.

'A bounteous 2014'

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, also speaking on the Super Morning Show, wished a "Joyous Christmas to all of our country."

Asked his itinerary for the day, the former president said he and his wife will be celebrating the day with their children, grand children and some well wishers.

John Agyekum Kufuor's Christmas message to Ghanaians was that, "Our hearts should be filled with thanks to the Almighty for giving us yet another Christmas, bringing us this far.

'It's not everybody that perhaps that will have a happy day in terms of something to eat and share with others but all the same, we are alive and lets be thankful and then pray that next year life will be a bit easier and more bounteous," he said.

It is the former president's prayer that "we should have a peaceful country, a united country, a country where we will be each other's keeper."
