THE ABURA Dunkwa District Police Command has arrested Mallam Sulemanu Mumuni aka Alhaji Tanko and his accomplice, Jude Essel Dadzie aka Kweku Apaah for allegedly killing a 23-year-old Central University student, Joseph Nicolas Danquah, for not paying the compensation for the "juju" they gave him at Ayiase near Assin Jakai in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
The body has since been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE on Tuesday, the Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Moses Nin- son, said the incident happened on March 19, 2014, when the Unit Committee Chairman of the area, Isaac Obeng, reported to the Abura Dunkwa Police that a young man had been found dead by the roadside.
DCOP Ninson said their investigations indicated that Alhaji Tanko who resided at Adisadel gave 'juju' to the deceased, who promised to compensate him, but the deceased failed to do so. He stated that Alhaji Tanko, unhappy with Joseph's action, conspired with Kweku Apaah who lured him to Assin Ayiase where they chloroformed and strangled Joseph to death. They then picked him to the roadside and disfigured him with acid to prevent him from being easily identified. The suspects then took the deceased's Toyota Corolla saloon car with registration number GT 172-12 to Cape Coast, where they re-painted it as a taxi with registration number CR 1769-13. The police commander disclosed that Kweku Apaah then went to Agona Nyakrom to see a Mallam to fortify him so the spirit of the deceased would not be able to haunt him |
DCOP Moses Ninson said the Mallam asked Kweku Apaah to wait for him. He quickly rushed to the police to report the matter, leading to Kweku's arrest.
DCOP Ninson stated that the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander,DSP Bernard Twum Berimah had then sent signals to the various police stations to assist them to arrest the perpetrators.
The Nyakrom Police, after arresting Kweku Apaah, informed DSP Twum Berimah who went and picked him to the Abura Dunkwa Police Station.
The two would be put before a Magistrate Court tomorrow.
DCOP Moses Ninson appealed to the public to be very careful in their dealings with so-called mallams and spiritualists.
