More police and military personnel have been deployed to the Techiman Municipality to restore order, following a demonstration that left at least three people injured.
Some properties are said to have been destroyed by angry demonstrators.
Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Zongo communities in the municipality have embarked on a demonstration to protest the nomination of Phillip Oppong Amponsah as Municipal Chief Executive for the area.
Joy News’ correspondent in the Brong Ahafo Region, Iddrisu Awudu said a driver, whose car was destroyed, has been admitted at a nearby hospital.
According to him, persons, who tried to capture the incidence with their phones had them snatched away by the aggrieved supporters.
He said the demonstrators took over the main road in Techiman, burning tyres as personnel of the Ghana Fire Service were dispatched to the community to douse the fire.
A sizeable number of police personnel have also been deployed to the Zongo community in the area to bring the marauding supporters under control, Awudu reported.
Iddrisu Awudu however feared if care is not taken there is going to be more destruction at night.
But the Techiman Municipal Police Commander, Daniel Doh-Nkeboare told Joy News that everything was under control.
He said the confusion started after the Regional Minister had granted an interview with a local station, where he announced the nomination of Phillip Amponsah as MCE for the area.
But the demonstrators were calmed down and told to do what is legally right by notifying the police five days before they hit the streets, the Municipal Police Commander said, adding that no arrest was made because the demonstrators “ran away”, when they saw the police, knowing that “what they were doing was wrong”.
Daniel Doh-Nkeboare denied that some cars were destroyed but insisted that only tyres were burnt.
He therefore gave an assurance and indicated that “we have deployed enough men in town; so far the town is calm”.

Meanwhile, Suleiman Ahmed Mustapha, communications director for the NDC in Techiman, told Joy News that the party’s hierarchy in Accra has denied the nomination of Mr. Amponsah.
He said the supporters there were therefore “infuriated” by the announcement made by the minister.
He claimed they had information that the President had nominated one Baba Mohammed Ahmed for the job, and were therefore taken aback by the sudden nomination of Mr Amponsah.
According to him, thousands of NDC members in the area have resolved to leave the party if President Mahama does not withdraw the nomination of Mr. Amponsah.
But the Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, has refused to comment on the issue. He only told Joy News that his attention has not been drawn to any demonstration staged in the area.
