Residents of Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District of the Northern Region have expressed disappointment over the failure of the Ghana Police Service to compensate individuals and businesses who suffered the “unwarranted” attack on them by the its personnel in the latter part of 2010.
The Chief of the area Naa Golbila II is therefore calling for immediate justice for residents whose homes were destroyed in a police raid for the arrest of notorious robber Johnson Kombian late last year.
The area has also been experiencing a number of chieftaincy and land disputes which often result in violence.
Naa Golbila II described the action of the policemen during the raid as unprofessional and an obstruction of the human right of the people.
In 2010, a team of armed policemen raided homes at Nakpanduri in a bid to arrest the notorious jail breaker Kombian who had gunned down some policemen during one of such escapes.
The chief said they will be forced to seek redress from the courts if the victims of the raid are not compensated by the government.
Naa Golbila II further bemoaned the spate of violence in the area and encouraged residents to desist from such actions in order to create a better livelihood for themselves.
