The Ghana Association of Chinese Societies in collaboration with Students and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO), on Thursday donated items to the Suguru Children Care Centre and Tamale Childrens Home in the Northern region.

 

The items include cartons of milk, bags of rice, cooking oil, toiletries, LED television sets, standing fans, washing powder and soap.

Presenting the items at a short ceremony in Accra, President of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr. Hua said the gesture is part of their social responsibility to the community within which they operate.

According to him, they have since 2009 have collaborated with SYTO and other partners to support the needy in society, which included mobilizing funds, and items to donate to orphanages and homes in the country.

Mr. Hua added that they are of strong belief that some day humanity will come to understand we can touch the world by doing small things that will touch the life of one orphan, one individual, one human.

“May our benevolent donation put a smile on their faces and we hope that their little gifts would be appreciated and well cared for”.

Also the Chinese Consular to Ghana, Mr. Zhou Youbin said the donation demonstrate their commitment to strengthen the ties with Ghana.

He indicated that although Ghana and China were thousands of kilometres apart, they had been enjoying brotherly friendship from the numerous exchanges and cooperation.

Mr. Zhou Youbin added that had over the years made great contribution to the common development of the two countries by means of promoting bilateral trade, investment, creating employment and fulfilling corporate social responsibility in “showing their love and care for the needy and vulnerable”.

On her part, General Manager of SYTO, Perpetual Opoku Agyeman thanked the societies for the kind gesture.

She said during festive occasion like Christmas, children especially looked forward for gifts from their parents and loved ones that was why SYTO decided to collaborate with the Chinese traders and companies to organize the items for the orphanages to bring hope and smiles to “these needy children”.

Mrs. Opoku Agyeman urged the beneficial to put the items to good use.

Representatives of the Suguru Children Care Centre and Tamale Childrens Home were full of praise for the donors for putting a smile on the faces of the venerable children in society.

They said it could have come at a better time when everyone is getting ready for Christmas and will ensure the children enjoy to the fullest.
