Dansoman police in Accra are investigating claims of violence during a congress to elect new national executives of the University Students Association of Ghana.
Joy News’ Beatrice Adu reports of violence at the premises of the Methodist University, venue of the congress, with machete and bottle wielding men invading the university.
Some students told Adu they had to run for their dear lives with others sustaining minor injuries in the attack, a claim Joy News cannot immediately confirm.
It is not clear the cause of the mayhem, even though some students believe the trouble makers may have been organized by a candidate who had been disqualified to contest one of the positions.
However the police have expressed surprise at reports of violence in the university during the congress.
The Dansoman Police said its personnel were present during the congress and did not witness any violence.
However a number of the students have been invited for questioning.
