The National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, Michal Nsowah, is not happy about the decision by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to terminate the appointment of some caterers under the programme. He said since the caterers have no contract with the AMA, it would be improper for the assembly to take such a decision without recourse to agreement covering their appointment. The to-be-affected persons have, therefore, threatened to take legal action against the AMA, if the assembly goes ahead to implement its intention. Mr Michael Nsowah noted that the need to terminate some contracts is a gradual process being carried out and warned that the AMA action would affect the programme if it was carried out prematurely. “I know other districts in the Greater Accra Region are doing similar exercise, but it is a gradual process, and I know one or two people who have confirmed that, yes, the exercise will go on but the old caterers will continue to cook so that by the time they finish the exercise, to the end of the year, then of course they have to replace them. “I don’t know if they want to do the same thing, but certainly we are not happy.” Story by Isaac Essel Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
