The Assin Foso district magistrate’s court on Wednesday bonded four men from Assin Endwa to be of good behaviour for one year after they have assaulted one Mr Yaw Nkrumah.
The convicts, Agyenim Boateng, farmer, Vincent Boateng, student, Isaac Odoom, student, and Francis Owusu Tawia, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit crime, assault and causing unlawful harm, would go to jail for six months in default.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Robert Essiam told the court, presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that both Yaw Nkrumah and the convicts were relatives residing at Assin Endwa.
He said on September 16, 2006, there was a family meeting during which a misunderstanding ensued and in the process Mr Nkrumah and one Kwasi Addae beat Agyenim Boateng.
He said Boateng informed his brother Francis Owusu Tawia and his children who mobilized themselves and confronted Mr Nkrumah and demanded to know why he and Kwasi Addae beat their father.
He said not satisfied with the explanation, the convicts also heckled Mr Nkrumah, put him on the ground and in the process Francis Owusu Tawiah slash the stomach of Mr Nkrumah with a knife.
Chief inspector Essiam said the matter was reported to the police and Mr Nkrumah was issued with a medical report to attend hospital at Foso where he was admitted for three days.Source: GNA
