The edifice that serves as the Magistrate’s Court in Anyinam in the Eastern Region, is said to be in a very poor state, posing danger to the judicial staff and the general public.
Joy News’ Benjamin Tetteh reports that recently, the concrete that was used to plaster the upper wall of the courtroom fell off. Moulds are also growing on parts of the building.
This incident and other deplorable conditions of the court building caused the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, to order the closure of the court – to avert a major catastrophe in case the building collapses.
The Chief Justice directed that staff of the Anyinam Court be moved to the Kwabeng Magistrate’s Court in the Atiwa District.
But Registrar of the court, Mr Ben Agbosu, believes the defects on the edifice were minor and was unhappy about how the issue of the fallen concrete plaster was reported in the media.
Repair works have begun on the Anyinam Magistrate's Court.
As part of Joy News’ focus on the state of court houses in Ghana, more reports from different parts of the country will be presented in the coming days.
