Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Association of Bankers has expressed worry over the alarming rate of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country.

Speaking on JoyNews' PM Express Business Edition, Mr John Awuah said "I think it is a concern and that is why we should all take it very seriously. Individuals, as business people, it is a concern."

His assertion comes after the Ghana Health Service (GHS) revealed that the country is battling a third wave of the virus.

According to available reports, the country continues to see a rise in its active and new cases as well as the death toll.

Interacting with host, George Wiafe on Thursday, Mr Awuah noted that the banking sector cannot speak of growth if its employees are not protected from the virus.

He, therefore, advised employers to ensure their employees visit the vaccination spots in the country and get vaccinated while enforcing all the Covid-19 safety protocols in their various institutions.

"You cannot have the growth you are looking for if you have people or employees who are sick. So if you are in your office or your business environment and you have workers who are not complying with the protocols, it is a bottom-line issue and that is how you should treat it and make sure where the vaccination points are announced, make sure your staff hurriedly go and take the shots to protect themselves," he said.

Currently, the country's death toll stands at 991. As of August 22, active cases recorded were 6,981. A total of 491 new cases were also recorded.

This brings the total confirmed cases to 116,441.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) will from next week begin the administration of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines procured by government in places identified as hotspots nationwide.
