The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has renewed its call on government to separate the Justice Ministry from the Attorney General’s Department.
This was one of the National Democratic Congress’ major election promises in the area of governance.
The CPP raised the separation of the portfolio during its first shadow cabinet meeting on Thursday.
The party’s plan to merge with the PNC was also given priority. Though the decoupling of the AG’s functions from that of the Justice Minister is being considered by the Constitutional Review Commission, the party says it finds it necessary to remind the NDC government that it also made that promise.
Chairman of the CPP Ladi Nylander who chairs the shadow cabinet said the meeting also discussed the need for the Regional Integration and NEPAD to be decoupled from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
He said the meeting was also devoted to house keeping issues as well as the urgent call for merger with the PNC.
