Intelligence available to the Daily Post newspaper has revealed a clandestine and sinister plot by a clique within the NDC to destroy Mr. Herbert Mensah, former Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football club.
Herbert’s crime is his close association with the Rawlingses and his defence of positions taken by the former President and his wife in recent times on the direction the NDC NDC government is heading. However the immediate cause of the plot against Herbert is his claim during an interview on Radio Gold, an Accra based radio station, last Wednesday that Mr. Ato Ahwoi, the de facto Prime Minister of the Mills administration, in the run up to the 2008 elections, told him, in the presence of two other friends that Mills was suffering from delusions. Herbert, who made those statement in reaction to Mr. Ato Ahwoi’s allegations that he (Herbert) had called him and tried to prevail on him to get Mills to step down for Spio said it was after Mr. Ahwoi’s comment that he had an others suggested Mr. Spio Garbrah as Plan B replacement for the then candidate Mills.
Herbert’s claim, which was corroborated by his two witnesses, exposed Mr. Ato Ahwoi as it revealed that he was guilty of the very crime he accused Mr. Spio Garbrah of committing, that is claiming that Prof. Mills was sick. Ever since his remarks on Radio Gold, all manner of attempts have been made to court hatred and ridicule for Herbert.
Leading the campaign is Raymond Archer, Editor of the Enquirer newspaper who tried to subject Mr. Herbert Mensah to public ridicule by claiming firstly that he has impregnated a daughter of the Rawlingses and then later that Mr. Mensah had a daughter with one of the daughter of the Rawlingses.
Rather than courting public hatred for Herbert, the publication has been scornfully ridiculed by many members of the public as a jaundiced journalism unbecoming of an editor who believes that he is the monarch of all that he can survey and is goaded on by the clique within the NDC who see Jerry Rawlings, Founder of the NDC, a threat to their privileged positions.
The new plots by the clique in the NDC against the former Kotoko boss and international businessman involves getting other pro-NDC newspapers to join the Enquirer to mount a relentless attack on him to subject him to ridicule and hatred within the NDC. Herbert’s radio station, X FM, has also to come under attack from the NDC clique who hope to get it closed down by the authorities. Other business concerns of Mr. Mensah are also to be targeted all in a bid to frustrate him and get him to simply kiss politics a bye.
The former Kotoko CEO, according to Daily Post sources within the NDC played a very strategic role in getting the NDC back to power. Apart from donating huge sums of money to the NDC campaign, he deployed strategic equipment to help the NDC beat the NPP to it. “I cannot tell you exactly what he did for security reasons but President Mills, Vice President John Mahama, former President Rawlings and Mr. Ato Ahwoi can attest to this themselves” a source within the NDC told the Daily Post newspaper. Interestingly, in spite of this, some within the NDC would want to deny that Mr. Herbert was on the side of the NDC let alone played a pivotal role in getting the party win the elections.
