Dancehall music known to be the unspoken and unwritten preserve of men has now gotten feminine competition entering the music genre.
AK Songstress, last Saturday thrilled fans gathered at the national theater for the DJ award 2014 with an energetic display of dancehall music.
The 23-year old dancehall artiste already has a single titled 'Party' featuring Danny Beatz. A video, shot in South Africa, is expected to be released "very soon".
Ghana's dancehall is currently running on high testosterone levels with Samini, the veteran and Shatta Wale, a stubborn challenger, battling for who is the best dancehall artiste in Ghana.
At least two concerts which pitched the dueling duo together, has done little to settle the matter except spark an endless deluge of divided opinion on social media.
But while this goes on, Akosua Kwakye has thrown herself into the ring and is attempting to widen the debate from a two-some supremacy contest into a threesome.
She is promising to bring to Ghanaians serious dancehall that has never been experienced before.
“I have too much energy within me and dance hall is full of attitude and energy and I have all these qualities”, she told Multi TV's Rebecca Darko.
In the event that Emprez Songstress as she is also affectionately called, is unsuccesful in her audacious bid to outclass Samini or Shatta Wale, the position of 'dancehall queen' will be a vacancy uncontested.
