Death toll in Ashanti Region accidents increases

The death toll in two separate accidents in the Ashanti Region yesterday has risen to fifteen.

Two more victims of the accidents which occurred at Dominase and Abuakwa died last night at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who was at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital reported several others, including an eight months old baby are still in critical condition.

The two accidents happened at different times on different roads but in the same region.

Nine persons reportedly died on the spot when an articulated truck from Kumasi ran over  Mercedes Sprinter Bus travelling from Takoradi to Kumasi.

The Sprinter Bus with registration number AW 1420-13 burst its tyres and lost control, running into an oncoming truck with registration number WR 1652-09.

Earlier, four persons died on the spot at Mfensi near Abuakwa on the Kumasi-Tepa road, when a Kia Pregio mini-bus with registration number AW 6168-13 crashed into a tricycle.

Several others who sustained injuries were sent to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment.

But two of the victims, each from the separate accidents, reportedly have died.

Asare Donkor said the two died late last night.

Fourteen others are still on admission, some very critical.

According to Donkor, an eight month old baby has been put in a ventilator with two others on cardiac monitors.
