Ghana winger Andre Ayew missed out on the Tuttosport 2011 ”Golden Boy” Award after sensational German teenager Mario Gotze was named winner.
The Olympique Marseille ace, 21, was hoping to sweep home the coveted award after being nominated with 40 other candidates including Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara, Lille’s Eden Hazard and Mario Gotze who plays for Dortmund.
The prestigious award is presented to the World’s best Under-21 player and the likes of Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and Mario Balotelli are former recipients.
Ayew has established himself as the most important player at Marseille playing a key role in their campaign this season.
He has scored five important goals for Marseille this season including a brace against Mario Gotze’s Borussia Dortmund in the Uefa Champions League.
