The Deputy Attorney General Ebow Barton Oduro has expressed surprise over why a former Supreme Court judge, Justice Kpegah, would sue the Chief Justice and Attorney General.The AG is said to have turned down a loan guarantee application Justice Kpegah had requested to enable him secure a loan to complete a family house.The retired Supreme Court judge has in recent times been in the news criticising the President and the Attorney General for delaying the prosecution of former public officials alleged to have plundered state resources.Mr Oduro said although the AG's Department was not supposed to guarantee the loan for the retired justice, it went “out of [its] way” to get the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to guarantee it.Although the department has guaranteed the loan, Justice Kpegah is said to have served the AG’s Department notice of his application at the court to sue.“We thought that by doing that we would settle this matter amicably without prejudice to the merit of the case. So this is what we have done ‘out of our way and out of extreme respect for the plaintiff in this case,” Mr Oduro told Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, host of the Super Morning Show.The Deputy Attorney General said the case was adjourned to a date within this month.Employer's obligationMr Oduro said, like any profession, the employer is supposed to guarantee loans for its employees.According to him, because Justice Kpegah’s is resigned, the AG’s Department no longer holds it a duty to guarantee a loan for him.“It is also true that the Supreme Court judges retire on their salary.
