Many parts of the country have been left without electricity following the destruction of the main GRIDCO transmission line in the Aboadze enclave.
According Joy News sources, the destruction of the transmission line was caused by a rainstorm which began on June 8 at 3 a.m.
Many areas in the Upper West and the Brong Ahafo Regions have been left without electricity after the incident.
Reacting to the issue on Joy News, Deputy Power Minister, John Jinapor said his attention was drawn to the situation immediately the incident happened.
He confirmed the “main fault is from the Tafo Akwatia where as a result of a rainstorm the main line has been shuttered.”
The minister disclosed the engineers have moved to the ground to first of all isolate the problem.
The engineers have divided themselves into two to restore power and supply to the whole country, he said.
“Fortunately they have identified the problem to be from the Tafo Akwatia main line to solve the challenges,” he said.
He, however, said the engineers could not rectify the fault because the whole place was dark affecting vision.
Responding to a question about the timeline for the restoration of power to the affected areas, Mr Jinapor said “From my experience it normally doesn’t take the whole day.”
“So we are looking at the end of today for the power to be restored,” he added.
