The communications director of Prof. Mills' campaign, Koku Anyidoho has called on Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party to concede defeat ahead of the election in the Tain Constituency.
“If Alan Kyerematen did it for him to become the presidential candidate of the NPP he should also do it for Ghana,” Koku Anyidoho told Joy FM correspondent Stephen Anti.
Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Afari Gyan on Tuesday declared the election was too close the result of the Tain constituency could decide who becomes President.
Out of the 229 constituencies, Prof Atta Mills of the NDC polled 4,501,466 representing 50.13 per cent of the total vote cast, whilst the NPP polled 4,478,411 representing 49.87 per cent.
The Tain constituency has a total of 52,890 voters and the NPP needs some 23,000 more votes to catch up with the NDC.
However in the December 7 general elections the NDC won marginally with 16,211 votes whilst the NPP polled 14,935 votes.
Considering the tension and fatigue that came with the elections Mr. Anyidoho said the nation would be better off with a Nana Akufo-Addo concession.
The EC failed to conduct elections in Tain due to delay in electoral materials arriving in the constituency.
Meanwhile the NPP is beaming with confidence ahead of the Tain elections which has been scheduled on January 2, 2009.
Communications director of the Akufo-Addo campaign Arthur Kennedy said the party is hopeful the electoral commission would thoroughly audit figures from the Volta Region to address what he described as irregularities.
He expressed disappointment the party was trailing Prof. Atta Mills but indicated the NPP will continue to preach the message of hope to the people in the Tain constituency in order for them to rally behind the party.
