The National Executive Council of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) agreed on Tuesday to suspend their ongoing withdrawal of outpatient services until further notice.
The decision was reached after a Tuesday meeting between the GMA, the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) in Accra.
A statement signed by GMA President Dr Kwabena Opoku Adusei and GMA General Secretary Dr Frank Serebour announced that a new Memorandum of Understanding now binds both GMA and FWSC to abide by a new NLC ruling. The ruling requires that by February 20th, 2013, the GMA and FWSC discuss and establish a clear plan to implement a previous NLC ruling mandating that the FWSC pay doctors the wages owed them.
“If there is any lack of commitment on the part of FWSC representing government, to fully implement the ruling of NLC, the suspended road map will be reactivated without any further notice to any of the stakeholders,” it said.
The statement urged all GMA members to be on the alert as leadership works towards the full implementation of the NLC’s decision.
