The Dodowa District Police have detained a 22-year-old mother, Deborah Asiedu for abandoning her 8-month-old baby girl, Janet Amissah.

She was charged with putting the baby's life in danger.

The District Commander, Superintendent Samuel Kwesi Ofori told Myjoyonline.com that Deborah had gone to the baby’s father, Bowey Amissah for some money to buy food for Janet.

Bowey, according to the police, refused the request by Deborah and angrily, slapped her.

As a result, she left the 8-month-old baby with the father (Bowey) and went away. Bowey, on the other hand, laid the baby on the bare floor and left too.

Bowey had packed his belongings from a room he was sharing with Deborah at Dodowa Matetse on August 13, 2014 to an unknown location.

At about 3pm, two days after (15/8/2014), Deborah was able to locate Bowey’s new place of abode where she asked him for some money to get the child food.

Meanwhile, sensing danger, Deborah’s father, whom she had run to at Agomeda, after leaving Bowey’s house, advised her to go for the baby.

But when she got to Dodowa Matetse, Janet had been taken to the police station for safe keeping.

Deborah, Superintendent Ofori noted, was arrested and subsequently detained behind the counter to enable her take care of the child. The police is also looking for Bowey to help in investigation.
