On an occasion when gospel musician, Pastor Josh Laryea, and Nana Poku Ofori Atta, CEO of Africa Mediacom slugged it out in the stands for who better knew every word of every music Don Moen, the Accra International Conference Centre was an instant spirit-renewal cathedral.
Reverend Joe Beechem simply did not know what to do with himself, sometimes going down on his knees, or throwing his hands up as though to grab at something divine but unseen, or bury his forehead on the floor, while a few chairs away, Bishop Charles Agyin Asare and a host of others were either swinging their whole bodies in rhythmic flow with the music that piped down at them from the stage, and had everyone in the veritable presence of God.
The music that filled the main auditorium was flowing from the trained hands and voices of The King of Praise and Worship, Don Moen and his band, on the final day of his two-day live concert in Ghana courtesy Functions Ghana. Don’s wife, Laura, looked occasionally surprised at the man she was observing all over again, trying and praying that he could dance as an African, for there was something in Ghana that urged him on. And he was later to confess he was so ‘hopelessly White’ that the flexible, almost silky movements of the African at a dance was a real challenge.
Patrons left the event truly fulfilled and wishing for more, after Don Moen took everyone on a celestial journey through some of his songs, fresh and old, telling of God’s designs, His Promise and what He is capable of, including His willingness to intervene for those who diligently seek Him under any circumstance. And if there was a contest for which song endeared most to patrons and most manifested Don Moen’s global themes of hope, encouragement and comfort, that would be a Herculean task. The response to each was marvelous. I will Sing, Hiding Place, I Believe There Is More, Arise, Thank you Lord and you name it.
