The Spokesperson for Alan Kyremanten’s camp, Yaw Buabeng-Asamoa has cautioned delegates of the Danquah-Busia tradition not to make the mistake of retaining Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s flag-bearer for the 2012 general elections. Nana Addo was the party's presidential candidate in Election 2008 but failed to win the polls. Some pro-Nana Addo elements within the NPP have been calling on party delegates to see the upcoming National Congress of the party as a platform to reward the former Foreign Affairs Minister for his long service to the Danquah-Busia Tradition by retaining him as Presidential Candidate. But Mr Yaw Boaben-Asamoa, in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, warned NPP delegates never to heed such calls. He opined that, it would be a mistake for NPP to give another chance to the person who led the party into opposition in 2008. “Assuming he goes a second time and history is on the side of Mills then he (Nana Addo) is likely to lose again. He is the same face, nothing has changed so therefore Mills could also win the sympathy of Ghanaians who would then say let's vote against this man. Let Mills do his eight years, you can wait. The only way to break that convention which is building up is to insert a major force from outside the two players and that is Kyerematen,” he said. Mr Buabeng-Asamoa also challenged claims by members of the Nana Addo Campaign team that about 90 percent of NPP MPs have declared their support for the presidential hopeful. He added that the youth and the NPP need a dynamic person who can take swift decisions and think outside the box. He said Kyerematen appeals more to the public and represents hope for the youth. “They need somebody they can empathize with, somebody they can look up to, a hope they can rely on, a symbol they can try to emulate and he (Alan Kyerematen) offers that”.
