Hundreds of residents at the Konkomba market in Accra were left homeless when fire razed down their wooden structures, last night.
The fire, which started around 7:00 pm was said to have been triggered by a gas explosion in one of structures which serves as a residential facility and market stall.
This is the second time in 2015, fire has ripped through the market mainly built with wood.
One of the residents, Mohammed Sawla who spoke to Joy News said “my house has been burnt to ashes. Last night, I slept in the open. I was left at the mercy of the weather. ”
He also said “I have lost all my belongings. I could not get anything out of my room. The situation is dire and we really need help here. Most of us are poor people who have come from the North to make a living from the menial jobs we do”.
According to the residents, most of their belongings had already been burnt before the Ghana National Fire Service arrived.
The residents have started putting up the wooden structures again.
